RotaxÆ triple-cylinder engines. The heart of the segment? Two Rotax three-cylinder engines: the 599 baby triple in the Formula III 600 and Formula III 600 LT sleds, and the 699 in the Formula III 700. The 599 engine powered Mike Houle and Normand Pilote to dozens of F-III racing victories, including four season championships over the past two years, and Houle's 1996 Eagle River World's Championship. Both powerplants feature crankcase reed induction with an intake resonator and exclusive R.A.V.E. exhaust port modifiers. Three central-outlet tuned pipes are standard. SC-10 High Performance rear suspensions. Aggressive trail riding requires comfortable, yet taut suspensions. The SC-10 High Performance rear suspension, equipped with High Pressure Gas (HPG) or Motion Control gas shocks, makes for a comfortable, stable and responsive ride on any trail. Its patented Acceleration and Control Modulator (ACM) improves handling by increasing ski pressure when powering out of corners. It's also adjustable so the rider can set their desired mix of cornering and acceleration. A softened track angle for '98 makes for higher top-end speeds. DSA front suspensions. Improving handling at all speeds was a primary objective of the CK3 project. The DSA chrome trailing-arm front suspension was completely reworked and now utilizes an unequal-length radius rod design for zero bump steer and scrub. New steering system components make steering easier. Plastic skis--narrow on the F III 600 and 700 models, wide on the F III 600 LTmodel--offer good bite and shed snow easily. TRA clutch. Labeled "bulletproof" for its legendary reliability, the TRA delivers power to the track with efficiency. Riders can easily adjust the maximum rpm setting on the TRA without disassembly. Bombardier hydraulic disc brake. Smooth, progressive-feeling stopping power. Self-adjusting for pad wear. All-new features. Digital Encoded Security System (DESS) for increased theft protection, electronic white-face gauge cluster with LCD odometer reads in either miles or kilometers with just the push of a button. A new single clear-lens headlight with dual 60 Watt lanps and dual multi-faceted reflectors, produces double the candlepower of the '97 lamp. |
