Background: Originally from Massachusetts, Stefanie Dean is addicted to horsepower. Whether that horsepower comes with skis and a track or reigns and a saddle depends on the season. Now based in Coalville, Utah, her winter days are filled with challenging her riding progression as she is never one to back down from any obstacle. Away from the snow, Dean is an avid horsewoman training horses, offering riding lessons and training herding dogs.
Favorite type of terrain to ride: Backcountry. I’m loving playing in more technical areas with natural features and drainages as my skills increase.
What’s your “regular” job? You gotta pay to play and I like to play a lot, so I work multiple jobs to keep me doing what I love. Year round, I school horses and teach horseback riding lessons. In the summer I am busy as the Program Director of a summer camp for kids. The horses are a huge part of teaching the kids important values such as responsibility, leadership, and teamwork as they work and play on the ranch. I also help my dad’s business with management and marketing. Last, but certainly not least, I am a part-time guide for Tracked Out Adventures in the winter.
Interests and hobbies outside of snowmobiling: Aside from working with horses, I love training my dogs for sheep and cattle herding. I have competed in herding trials since the age of 12 and just like my other passions, the learning opportunities are endless when training dogs. I also love spending time at the lake, both going boating and stand up paddle boarding.
What does That Ski-Doo Feeling mean to you? That Ski-Doo Feeling to me means pushing myself to be better. I love the endless opportunities for learning in this sport. My best days on a snowmobile are the ones when I am exhausted and my limits have been fully pushed, both mentally and physically. Not only does this make me feel like I accomplished a lot that day, but it gets me so excited because I know that when I get on my snowmobile for the next ride, I am going to be that much better.
What motivates you to be an Ambassador? I am so passionate about snowmobiling and I love sharing that passion with others. Also, being newer to sport, it is very fresh on my mind how humbling and challenging backcountry snowmobiling can be. I did not grow up snowmobiling, and I want people to know that it’s ok if they didn’t either. Snowmobiling is about enjoying the moment and day that you’re in, and pushing yourself to have a better day than the last.
Favorite Ski-Doo model of all time: I love the Gen 4. It has really taken my riding to the next level and helped strengthen an already growing passion for snowmobiling.
How long have they been riding snowmobiles? I started riding the 2016/2017 season. That isn’t too long ago, but I dove into the sport headfirst and have put my focus on learning and riding as much as I can.
Current SHV (Sled Hauling Vehicle): 2016 Ram 2500 with a flatbed
Favorite NFL team: New England Patriots (don’t hate me, I was born and raised in Massachusetts and love my Boston teams)
Favorite Artist: Waylon Jennings
Favorite season of the year: I love the change of seasons and always get excited for what’s next, but if I had to stick with one then you bet it would be winter.
Favorite Food: Chinese, Seafood
Dream travel destination: We have so much to offer here in Utah, that when I travel, I love to go to beaches. Kind of out there, but it has also become a dream of mine to go diving with Orcas in Norway… maybe a snowmobile ride there, too.
What do you love about BRP? I love that BRP carries the same mentality I do – constantly trying to improve and better yourself. If you’re not learning and moving forward then things can get boring, at least for me. Just like trying to improve your riding skills, BRP tries to improve their sleds every year, even when it seems like it can’t get any better.
