Hometown: Evanston, Wyo.

Current sled:  2021 Ski-Doo Freeride 154 850 E-TEC Turbo with 3-inch track

Background: The very definition of a passionate snowmobiler, Steve Martin joins the Ski-Doo Ambassador Team from Evanston, Wyo. Born in Canada, but raised in the western United States, Martin knows snow and the sport of snowmobiling. A lifelong motorsports enthusiast, he got his start on the throttle racing motocross. He still rides single track for the pure enjoyment of it. He’s perhaps best know for some dominant years racing sleds, finding success in almost any discipline you can think of. From Pro National Championships in snocross, to crosscountry championships, to X Games medals (3x), you’ll still catch Martin on the Snocross track and, of course, in the mountains of Wyoming and beyond. Here’s more on Steve Martin.

Favorite type of terrain to ride: Backcountry, deep snow

What’s your “regular” job? I am a gas plant operator. I work at a natural gas processing plant where we remove liquids and sulfur dioxide from the raw gas stream and send it down the pipeline for use in homes.

Interests and hobbies outside of snowmobiling: I grew up racing motocross, but now I just ride single track for fun (too many injuries). My family and I spend nearly every weekend camping in the mountains and riding our Can-Am X3. I ride my mountain bike every day if there isn’t snow on the ground. I love fitness. I’m in the gym at least four days a week. My kids are getting really good on their little mountain bikes, and they ride with me almost every day in the summer. We love enjoying the great outdoors.

What does That Ski-Doo Feeling mean to you? I live for snowmobiling. I ride with a purpose: to boldly go where no snowmobile has gone before. Ski-Doo continues to lead the industry with innovation, truly unlocking new areas, which were previously unreachable. When I ride a Ski-Doo snowmobile, I can tell everyone that had a hand in everything from designing, to delivery of that unit, is just as passionate about snowmobiling as I am, and the product reflects that.

What motivates you to be an Ambassador: I truly believe in the Ski-Doo product. Like I mentioned earlier, I ride with a purpose, so I need to trust the equipment, and of course I want to ride the best. I want the best experience possible. I ride every possible opportunity. Time is finite, so I want to take advantage. People around me can tell that I am genuine when I tell them why Ski-Doo is superior to other brands, and that I ride them because I want to. I enjoy getting new people into the sport and seeing them improve and enjoy it as much as I do.

Favorite Ski-Doo model of all time: I’m sure my ’21 Freeride will be, by far, my favorite of all time, but the 2011 Summit SP 800 E-TEC changed snowmobiling for me. I couldn’t believe how well the E-TEC engine ran. That was the first year the Summit was offered with a 36-inch-wide front end. I couldn’t believe how nimble the sled was, and how easy it was to sidehill. I started riding steeper and tighter tree lines. The following year I bought a 2012 Summit X 154, and it was an amazing sled. The 2014 Freeride was also very exciting. The XM chassis, the first year with KYB Pro 40 shocks stock, wide running boards, it’s too hard to pick just one.

How long have you been riding snowmobiles? I’ve been riding since I was 4 years old, so 32 years now. I enjoy it more and more every year. My kids are starting to ride now, and it is so much fun to share my passion with them.

Current SHV (Sled Hauling Vehicle): I haul my sleds with a 2013 Ram 3500. In the summer I drive my ’69 Dodge Super Bee around town.

Favorite NFL team: I enjoy watching football, but I know nothing about it. I’m the annoying person at the Super Bowl party that asks, “What does that mean?” every time the whistle is blown.

Favorite Artist: It’s hard for me to pick one, but lately I’ve really been into alternative, so currently I’ve been listening to a lot of Mumford and Sons.

Favorite season of the year: That’s easy, winter! If I could live somewhere it snowed 12 months of the year, I would.

Favorite Food: Probably Thai food, but I love trying new food. I’m not a picky eater at all. I like cooking as well. I’m just not very good at it yet.

Dream travel destination: I want to go to South America in August sometime and ride deep snow. That would be amazing.

What do you love about BRP? BRP is always leading the industry. Snowmobiling is where it is today because of the innovation from BRP. The reliability of the vehicles, fit and finish is second to none. The parts and accessories they offer are amazing as well, for both Can-Am and Ski-Doo, the LinQ system may be my favorite innovation from the accessory team.
