Fuel May Drip on Hot Components - Potential Fire Hazard

Fuel May Drip on Hot Components - Fire Hazard
Transport Canada Recall #2022-016

Dear BRP Customer,

Following the previous notice issued in January 2022, this notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. BRP is conducting a safety recall.

You may have received a notice prior to this letter about this recall.

Our records show that you own a potentially affected vehicle.

What is the problem?

  • Pressure may build up in the fuel tank when the engine cooling system efficiency is reduced. In this condition, fuel could be expelled from the vent outlet on hot components if:

  • the vehicle is flipped on the right side or

  • the vehicle is parked/immobilized downhill and tilted on the right.

  • Fire can occur and in some cases cause serious property damages, injury or even death.

Which models are involved?

The following models with a 900 ACE turbo engine from MY2020, MY2021 and MY2022:

●       Ski-Doo Expedition LE, SE and SWT

What should you do?

●       BRP will repair your vehicle at no cost.

●       The repair is to change the routing and the exit location of the fuel vent. A protective plate will also be installed to protect the outlet of the vent.

●       The repair should take less than an hour to perform.

●       The parts for the repair procedure will begin to be available in the network on March 4, 2022.

If you leased this vehicle:

  • You shall send a copy of this letter to the lessee within ten working days after the day you received this letter.
  • You shall do the same with any future letters about this safety recall.
Can I continue to ride my vehicle?

BRP recommends that customers avoid using their vehicle until their vehicle is repaired.

A customer who must use their vehicle needs to AVOID BOTH of the following conditions at the same time to prevent fuel dripping from the vent outlet on hot parts:

1. Engine temperature above 95°C (203°F).

2. Tilting the vehicle to the right side at more than 45 degrees OR parking/ halting downhill.

To learn how to display the engine temperature in numbers in the cluster, refer to the operator’s guide: https://www.operatorsguides.brp.com/index.php
